Single-coil pickup

Single coil pickups are more prone to feedback but produce a clearer sound particularly in the higher sound regions. A good example is the Fender stratocaster, which uses three single-coil pickups.

Double-coil pickup

Double-coil pickups are excellent at cancelling excess noise and produce a more powerful sound one common model which utilises these pickups is the Gibson Les Paul.
